Week 3, Term 2
Welcome
Dear St James Community,
Sunday, May 8th was Mother’s Day. We extend our best wishes and love to all Mothers and Mother Figures. On Friday, May 6th we held our special Mother’s Day breakfast at school and we hope everyone enjoyed this celebration, especially as we gathered once again as a community. We thank all of the parent helpers who cooked, served and cleaned for our mums!
Happy Mother’s Day!

Staffing announcement
Mrs Rhonda Cree has announced her intention to retire at the end of the 2022 school year.
Rhonda has had a stellar career, with over 40 years in education across primary and secondary schools, and in more recent times as the Assistant Principal of St James Primary. Rhonda's passion for children's learning and wellbeing and her outstanding pedagogical knowledge and leadership have been the hallmarks of her work.
At this moment we acknowledge and celebrate Rhonda's faithful commitment and celebrate her many achievements. Recruitment for Rhonda's replacement will commence in due course.
Personally, I acknowledge Rhonda for her loyalty, devotion, service and support, and I thank her husband Rick, and children Sarah and Bryn for their loving support of Rhonda during her career.

2023 Enrolments
Our recent Open Day and Principal's Presentation was a wonderful success with 49 families visiting our school. We received terrific feedback from families about our staff and school, the student's manners and positivity, and how the Year 6 students conducted themselves as tour guides. We are indeed proud of everyone's efforts and we thank our families who actively promote St James Primary within the wider community. Enrolments for Kindergarten 2023 close on May 20th; places are filling fast so please ensure paperwork is received prior to this date!
Reminders for parents
I draw your attention to the 3 reminders below that relate to our school's structures and routines:
1. St James Communication strategy. This is the guideline for how both school and home interact and communication, which is vital to the health of our organisation. Particularly, we draw your attention to emails from parents to staff and vice versa; these must be sent via the school email address (bpp@lism.catholic.edu.au) and not directly to staff email accounts. We sincerely thank you for adhering to these school procedures. The St James communication strategy is available on the school website and can be accessed via this link:
https://bpplism.schoolzineplus.com/_file/media/292/communication_strategy_version_3_may_2021_.pdf
2. Drop of time. Drop off time for students is from 8am; please do not drop students off prior to 8am unless they are attending before school care.
3. Partnership expectations: Please refer to the letter sent to families on Monday that outlines partnership expectations.
Student Disco
Our student disco is planned for May 26th (K-2 4.15pm and Y3-Y6 6pm). The parent organising committee is finalising all the last minute details and we're sure the children are looking forward to dancing and singing together with their friends (especially after a period of hiatus on this event). Bookings will be available via the school office (cash only please!).

To conclude
May 24th is the Feast of ‘Our Lady, Help of Christians’ which observes a day of devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. ‘Our Lady, Help of Christians’ is the Patroness of Australia and together we pray:
Almighty God, deepen in our hearts
our love of Mary Help of Christians.
Through her prayers and under her protection,
may the light of Christ shine over our land.
May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.
Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.
Bless especially the men and women
of the Australian Defence Force and their families.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.
With blessings,
Nic.
