Week 5, Term 2
Welcome
Dear St James Community,
Each Friday afternoon for the next few weeks, students are engaged in Play is the Way vertical streaming. The ultimate aim of Play is the Way is to support students to develop resilience and empathy, which assists them in becoming people of good character and decency. The children will play games that facilitate a deeper understanding of the life rafts and the virtues and values that underpin them.
Our cafe, Saintly Square (located outside the school canteen), is open on a Friday afternoon from 2pm, and parents are welcome to drop in and have a cuppa, and visit the classrooms to see Play is the Way in action.

Essential Assessment
Essential Assessment is a tool that shares the online progress of students with parents in relation to numeracy and literacy concepts that are currently being learnt by their children. It shows growth (glows) and goals (next steps). The recent parent information sessions were very informative and we thank those who were able to attend on short notice. See the receorded session below that was captured at the meeting.
Dio Cross Country
Congratulations to Hype, Cade, Billy, Yohanna, Domenic and Cormac who represented St James (& the Tweed Cluster) at the Diocesan Cross Country in Grafton. We especially acknowledge Cade who placed 1st, Hype 2nd, Cormac 7th and Yohanna placed 8th. They will now be attending Polding Cross Country in Sydney. Good luck!
Extra-Curricular (Mur'bah Eisteddfod)
Extra-Curricular activity is defined as an activity at a school pursued in addition to the normal course of study. At St James, we endeavour to provide many opportunities for our students and it is exciting to see students in all stages of the school have the choice to join the choral speaking event that will be performed at the Murwillumbah Eisteddfod. Students who opted to join their Grade performance team will practise each week with a teacher. The Eisteddfod is in Week 2, Term 3.
Currently, our Extra-Curricular and Student Culture staff team are investigating how we can provide instrumental music lessons to students here at school; if you know of anyone who might be able to assist, please contact us!

To conclude
Next week is National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about the shared histories, cultures, and achievements of Indigenous Australians, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Students will learn more about this through a liturgy focused on developing each student’s understanding of respect and unity. The theme of National Reconciliation Week this year is Be Brave - Make Change. During this significant week in our nation, we pray for reconciliation, peace and harmony; May God's power and love be the foundations on which we build our families, our communities and our Nation, Amen.
With blessings,
Nic.
