Week 9, Term 1 - 2023
Welcome
Dear St James Community,
We are approaching the end of another busy and successful Term and I would like to acknowledge the spirit of kindness, giving, sharing, support, learning, and joy that has been present in our school.
I am very proud of our students and all they have achieved; I especially acknowledge the generosity of families towards Project Compassion. Almsgiving and supporting the dignity of the human person is central to our Catholic faith and this year we've given witness to this by raising $902.15 so far.
I also take this opportunity to congratulate our Kindergarten students who have settled beautifully into our school environment over the past Term; their joy of learning and developing new relationships is such a delight and gift to us all – well done kids!
The final day of school for Term 1 is Thursday, April 6th; on this day we are holding our Term 1 ‘Celebration of Learning’ and parents are invited to attend this special event as outlined below. We thank everyone for their generosity in providing chocolate, Easter eggs, and items for our Easter Raffle.
Easter Raffle/Holy Week:
- 12 noon: Holy Week Liturgy in the MPC (parents and friends welcome).
- 1pm: Shared lunch (parents, students, and friends welcome to order lunch from the canteen)
- 1:30pm: Parents, students, and friends enjoy games together.
- 2pm: Easter raffle in the MPC (parents and friends welcome).

Enrolments for Kindergarten 2024 are now open; please contact the school office for an enrolment pack. Our open day and principal’s presentation were held this week and we were delighted with the interest and attendance. We sincerely thank all families for your ongoing support and promotion of St James in the wider community; word-of-mouth publicity is the best! We also thank our Year 6 students who acted as tour guides on Wednesday; they did a stunning job!

Term 2 Whole School Spirituality Retreat
Yandihndi – accompany – go with – take along.
We are excited to introduce the St James inaugural whole school student retreat; set to take place next term, Friday 28th April.
Our theme, accompany, go with, take along; echoes our school motto Family in Christ, as we journey together to ignite a faith-filled community through student discipleship and spiritual formation. Students will engage in activities, such as meditation, craft and drama, to build connections across the school community with self, others, and Jesus in multi-aged groupings.
We welcome families to join us in the MPC for a liturgy on Friday 28th April at 2:15 pm to celebrate our retreat.
Anzac Day March
All St James Primary students have the opportunity to participate in the Anzac Day March (Tuesday 25th April - last day of school holidays) co-ordinated by the RSL Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Sub-Branch.
Students will gather at the Coral Street end of Jack Evans Boat Harbour, Tweed Heads, wearing their full school uniform, including their hat. We are requested to be in position by 10.15am so we ask that all students be dropped off and left with St James staff by 10.00am. It will take us about 15 minutes to organise students into heights and lines. The march is set to start at 10.30am, with the ceremony at the Epitaph starting at 11am. The students will be provided with a light refreshment by the RSL Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Sub-Branch at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Thank you in advance for supporting your child's participation in this march to honour the spirit of soldiers past and present.
Tell Them From Me Survey
Each year St James Primary undertakes a parent, student, and staff survey that asks questions about the organisational health of our school community. This data is vital in shaping our school improvement planning and future directions. The 2023 survey will open on 24 April 2023 (4:30pm AEST) and close on 12 May 2023 (4:30pm AEST). Parents will receive a link to the live survey soon, which will be sent via Compass. Please look out for this and take the time to complete the survey so that we can continually improve and offer the best education available for our kids! In advance, we thank you for completing this important task.

With blessings,
